How To Treat Whooping Cough?

Cough can easily be remedied with over the counter cough medicines produced by pharmaceutical companies. But it is still best to get your cough treated with natural treatment God has planned for us.

Honey is a good remedy for coughs and other ailments. There is no dosage to take it internally because it is a natural food. It penetrates the tissue and gives soothing effect.

Some other natural treatments are also good to treat coughs: Take one teaspoonful each of colt�s foot, black cohosh, cubeb berries, mix thoroughly and steep in a pint of boiling water. Take a glassful every hour according to age. You can also make this into syrup by adding a pound of strained honey or malt sugar, boil down to one-half pint. Take a little of the syrup on the point of a spoon every hour or two. When the cough is violent take every half hour. But it has a better effect without the honey or malt sugar.

Now for severe cough, as in whooping cough or asthma, it is a good thing to drink warm water, one cupful after another, as much as you can, then stick the finger down the throat to produce vomiting.

It is more effective if you steep one teaspoonful of cubeb berries, and one-half teaspoonful lobelia in a pint of boiling water, and drink when warm. This will cut the phlegm, clean the throat and stomach of poisonous mucous.

But in case of whooping cough or asthma, soaking of the feet in hot water, to which has been added a little mustard and salt, is very good.

One teaspoonful of strong pennyroyal tea taken every fifteen minutes, decreasing to every half hour after the cough is checked, is very helpful. Make the tea by using a heaping teaspoonful of the granulated herbs or one-half teaspoonful of the powdered herbs to the cup of boiling water. You may sweeten with a little honey.

You may drink freely the thick slippery elm tea which is extremely good in whooping coughs. You may add lemon if you wish.

Any one or two of the herbs listed below may be selected to make into a tea, or use those given above. Make the tea by using a teaspoonful of the granulated herbs, or one-half teaspoonful powdered herbs to a cup of boiling water. Drink three cups a day, an hour before each meals and one before retiring to bed.
